As part of the project’s community engagement efforts, the Sustentar team visited the community of Guachochi, Chihuahua in January. The team met with members and leaders of the indigenous Raramuri community, public officials, and the municipality president. Participants discussed issues such as child labor, working conditions, and labor recruitment of migrant agricultural workers in the area. As a result of the meeting, it was proposed that indigenous leaders will map the places of origin of field workers in the area and identify the workplace conditions that they encounter. The collected information will inform the development of Sustentar’s ethical recruitment mechanism. Find more information about ethical recruitment below.
